The best DAM tour

The Bureau of Reclamation offered tours of the Jamestown Dam and spillway yesterday. Erin and I decided to check things out. Our dam tour guide, Mike, explained why this dam thing was built, and how dam old it is. (He pointed out the newspaper was incorrect on the year.) The Jamestown Reservoir is at the highest level ever, and will use the emergency spillway (glory hole) this year. The spillway was used on Friday when wind blew water down; the reservoir will go up another 1-2 feet shortly. Jamestown is seeing the 55-dam and spillway perform tasks never seen. We finally saw where the reservoir’s normal drain is, a cool whirlpool there. Then we took a walk down to the gates and saw the water. It is interesting that air and water are hitting each other so hard that they are creating a foamy mess. We had a dam nice day to take the dam tour. Overall, it was a very interesting experience to learn about the Jamestown Dam.

We have a bunch of pictures from the Dam Tour in the photo album, misc. folder.
