Saturday (June 27) is national PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) awareness day. PTSD affects millions of people each day. The disorder is an invisible disability that often robs people of their lives and may strike at any moment without warning. The general public knows PTSD because of our veterans and the trauma they suffer. Police, emergency response, domestic violence victims, victims of bullying, and many others suffer from PTSD. Although PTSD cannot be cured, caring and listening especially help those feel better and more a part of society. Many of our heroes suffer from PTSD, such as my brother, my hero. I encourage everyone to take five minutes on Saturday to learn about PTSD, or better yet, talk to someone who has it and let them know you care.
